More snippets from Carl's email to the family.

Have a look at the photos too - they are on a separate page.

August, 1998
Saturday morning here, Kids are in LA, Colleen is at work.

I'm going to ride my old Harley down to the hardware store,
and get some tile-grout for my little mosaic refinish
work (black and white checkers) which I did around our bathroon
sink in "our" bathroom.... among other projects...

Weather is lovely, but summer is slowly on the wane... boo hooo hoo.

Work keeping me very busy, but going very well, and NOT a drag... glad I
can say that!

September, 1998
Well, I had written something... and then multi-tasked
myself on my computer to some other project, and then unfortunatley gave
my computer a bad asprin or something, because its brain locked up, and
my email went out into the clouds... - but not in a format that any
other communication device could pick up and deliver to you - no, not
even to the most wireless commuter, Julesiz, even.

So here I start again, sitting on the sofa downstairs, just about as
unconnected, but with a new rock'n roll CD playing, and my writing
fingers starting to emulate the name of this band.... *garbage* ...

Kids are still in LA, and coming back at last on Monday. Today being
Friday evening.

Colleen is still not back from her work. She should be here in about an
hour.

My "birthday weekend" - well, actually, *our anniversary weekend* which
was last w'end - when for a change, Colleen had Sat/Sun off - we had
half a mind to rey to go to London with a couple of extra days added,
but that ended up looking too expensive, and the Hurricane
Bonnie/Danielle combo was promising good waves with good end-of-summer
beach weather as well. So we went to Rhode Island. Half the distance
to Cape Cod, and lots of surf-choices and beach access. We stayed in a
little motel - Willows - on the edge of a salt-water cove, and just
vrotted, and pottered about, and surfed (me) and explored. Found a
great State Park camping area, on a lake, not more than 10 minutes
away. We will go there with the kids for sure. Surf was GOOD too, and
I got a little in shape. I had already surfed twice during the week
before - and even went again since - on my Birthday morning - 45 and
surfing - I had to prove something, I suppose.

At work, I am up to the usual, only more busy, but also more of a boss,
so I get to tell other prople what to do.... Only problem is, telling
them and helping them takes much longer than it used to be "just doing
it myself".... some lament! Only kidding slightly, There is always
the pleasure of unloading tasks, and multiplying the effect by
mutiplying the feet on the ground.
